{"id":10144,"date":"2018-06-07T13:36:14","date_gmt":"2018-06-07T20:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/?p=10144"},"modified":"2018-06-07T14:23:18","modified_gmt":"2018-06-07T21:23:18","slug":"video-pick-of-the-week-sabrina-vlaskalic-plays-rodrigos-en-los-trigales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/video-pick-of-the-week-sabrina-vlaskalic-plays-rodrigos-en-los-trigales\/","title":{"rendered":"Video Pick of the Week: Sabrina Vlaskalic Plays Rodrigo&#8217;s &#8216;En Los Trigales&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We recently ran across this dynamic performance of Joaqu\u00edn Rodrigo&#8217;s <em>En los trigales<\/em> played by another of our favorite young guitarists, Serbia-born <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SabrinaVlaskalic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sabrina Vlaskalic<\/a>, who was featured in a <a href=\"http:\/\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/sabrina-vlaskalics-early-struggles-give-way-to-new-confidence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fascinating article<\/a>\u00a0in the summer 2017 issue of <em>CG<\/em>. Her lone album, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2sDXiFp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Debut<\/a>, came out at the beginning of 2017.<\/p>\n<p>As I noted previously, when we posted another guitarist&#8217;s version of this piece over a year ago, Rodrigo composed\u00a0<em>En los trigales<\/em>\u00a0in the summer of 1938. The title means \u201cIn the wheatfields,\u201d and according to Rodrigo biographer (and longtime\u00a0<em>Classical Guitar<\/em>\u00a0magazine writer) Graham Wade, writing in\u00a0<em>Joaqu\u00edn Rodrigo: A Life in Music<\/em>\u00a0(GRM Publications, 2006): \u201cThis work could be interpreted not only as a vivid evocation of summer landscape, but also as a song of homecoming in which the Spanish national instrument became, quite suddenly, one of Rodrigo\u2019s most intimately expressive voices.\u201d It was dedicated to guitarist Narciso Yepes, and premiered by Regino Sa\u00ednz de la Maza, who also debuted (and is the dedicatee of) Rodrigo\u2019s famous\u00a0<em>Concierto de Aranjuez,<\/em>\u00a0begun in 1938 and premiered the following year.
