{"id":133,"date":"2014-09-09T12:43:13","date_gmt":"2014-09-09T19:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cgdev.stringlettermusic.com\/?p=133"},"modified":"2014-10-06T09:28:04","modified_gmt":"2014-10-06T16:28:04","slug":"baranov-lin-at-carnegie-hall-on-oct-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/baranov-lin-at-carnegie-hall-on-oct-23\/","title":{"rendered":"Baranov, Lin at Carnegie Hall on Oct. 23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The next installment of the D\u2019Addario Performance Series features two internationally acclaimed classical guitarists\u2014one a seasoned veteran of the States, the other making his U.S. debut.<\/p>\n<p>On October 23 at 8pm, Carnegie\u2019s Weill Hall in New York welcomes to the stage <strong>Anton Baranov<\/strong> and<strong> Chiawei Lin<\/strong>, two rising talents on the world classical guitar scene.<\/p>\n<p>Baranov, of Russia, has joined the prize-winning circles at 15 international guitar competitions\u2014and at age 30, he\u2019s only getting started. Baranov splits his time between teaching at his alma mater, the St. Petersburg Conservatory, and performing live\u2014he\u2019s embarking soon on a 50-city tour of the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Brazil. Guitarist-composer Roland Dyens has described him as \u201ca real musician.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Baranov] is one of those rare guitarists who are able to have their attendees almost forget the instrument they play,\u201d says Dyens, \u201cmanaging to have them focus on the expressivity of the music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sharing the stage and making his U.S. debut that night, Chiawei Lin takes a brief respite from the international guitar-competition circuit\u2014where, in the last three years alone, he\u2019s earned eight first-place prizes and four second-place prizes (including the top award at the 2013 Koblenz International Guitar Festival in Germany).<\/p>\n<p>Lin, a 26-year-old native of Taiwan, currently studies guitar with Hubert Kappel, the renowned professor at the Koblenz International Guitar Academy.<\/p>\n<p>The D\u2019Addario Foundation is a nonprofit that directs grants and other donations to educational programs to promote music making for, as its website says, \u201cthose that might not otherwise have the opportunity.\u201d Learn more at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.daddariofoundation.org\">daddariofoundation.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The next installment of the D\u2019Addario Performance Series features two internationally acclaimed classical guitarists\u2014one a seasoned veteran of the States, the other making his U.S. debut.
