{"id":13699,"date":"2019-09-20T15:43:52","date_gmt":"2019-09-20T22:43:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/?p=13699"},"modified":"2019-09-20T15:43:52","modified_gmt":"2019-09-20T22:43:52","slug":"video-pick-of-the-week-christine-petit-dheilly-plays-gershwins-our-love-is-here-to-stay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/video-pick-of-the-week-christine-petit-dheilly-plays-gershwins-our-love-is-here-to-stay\/","title":{"rendered":"Video Pick of the Week: Christine Petit-D&#8217;heilly Plays Gershwin&#8217;s &#8216;Our Love Is Here to Stay&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Inspired by a vacation visit last week to the beautiful, lakefront town of G\u00e9rardmer in northeastern France, for this week&#8217;s &#8216;Pick&#8217; I&#8217;ve selected this lovely version of George Gershwin&#8217;s <em>Our<\/em> <em>Love is Here to Stay<\/em>, performed by one of my favorite French guitarists, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/christine.petitdheilly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christine Petit-D&#8217;heilly<\/a>, originally from Paris, but currently living and working in G\u00e9rardmer. I first heard her on her excellent 2016 album of South American pieces called <em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/30aT4rT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Contatos<\/a><\/em>. Besides being a fine solo guitarist, however, Christine also plays in a number of chamber configurations, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/triogershwin.altaismusic.altais-music.com\/wordpress\/?fbclid=IwAR1mhbYuc24aqZKqe1yBAJpphkksq0oFGIh_0bPedj99I5FouTCMtAyz5-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trio Gershwin<\/a> (currently Petit-D&#8217;heilly plus Jean-No\u00ebl Ruhl on piano and Beno\u00eet Charvet on cello) and the <a href=\"http:\/\/quatuorbarriosmangore.altaismusic.altais-music.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quator Barrios Mangore<\/a> (guitarists Petit-D&#8217;heilly, G\u00e9rard Verba, Adrien Maza, along with Jos\u00e9 Mendoza on guitar, <em>charango<\/em>, <em>cuatro<\/em>, and percussion).<\/p>\n<p>I could easily imagine this arrangement of the Gershwin brothers&#8217; classic song\u2014music by George, lyrics by Ira; originally for the 1938 movie <em>The Goldwyn Follies<\/em>, but popularized (appropriately for our purposes here) in the 1951 Gene Kelly film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GxGgY9GFhN4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">An American in Pari<\/a>s<\/em>\u2014coming from the pen of the late Roland Dyens, but it is in fact credited to the Trio Gershwin.
