{"id":16493,"date":"2021-07-06T10:31:25","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T17:31:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/?p=16493"},"modified":"2021-07-06T10:33:35","modified_gmt":"2021-07-06T17:33:35","slug":"new-york-guitar-festival-2021-honors-julian-bream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/new-york-guitar-festival-2021-honors-julian-bream\/","title":{"rendered":"New York Guitar Festival 2021 Honors Classical Guitar Giant Julian Bream with Free Online Series"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Starting on July 14, the <strong>New York Guitar Festival<\/strong> will be presenting a week of online performances honoring the memory of the great and influential British <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/julian-bream\" target=\"_blank\">classical guitarist Julian Bream<\/a>, who died last year at the age of 87. <strong>\u201cRemembering Julian Bream,\u201d<\/strong> includes commissions by a group of stellar classical guitarists, lutenists and composers, including <strong>Pepe Romero, Sharon Isbin, Leo Brouwer, Jason Vieaux, Ben Verdery, David Leisner, Pablo Villegas, Newman &amp; Oltman, Laura Snowden<\/strong>, and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival will premiere three video performances each day, from<strong> <\/strong>July 14 through July 20 at 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time via the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/guitarfestival\" target=\"_blank\">New York Guitar Festival YouTube channel<\/a> and New York City radio station WNYC<strong> <\/strong>will debut audio recordings of the newly commissioned works at 93.9 FM or at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsounds.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">newsounds.org<\/a>. Six composers will perform their own works dedicated to Bream:&nbsp;Laura Snowden (UK), Jiji (Korea), Leo Brouwer (Cuba), Jozef van Wissem (Holland), Derek Gripper (South Africa), and Gyan Riley (USA). In addition to these world premieres, the series includes performances of the classical-guitar music that Bream became known for, dating from the 16th through the 20th century. Composers will include John Dowland, Anthony Holborne, Benjamin Britten, Francisco T\u00e1rrega, Mauro G<strong>i<\/strong>ulliani, Enrique Granados, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and many more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Remembering Julian Bream: trailer\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yvRKaHgWq9Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
