Here\u2019s the lowdown on a few that caught our eye.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>A Celebration of Rodrigo in Brussels<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>During this well-publicized 75th anniversary of Joaqu\u00edn Rodrigo\u2019s much-loved <em>Concierto de Aranjuez<\/em>, performances of the great composer\u2019s music\u2014and not just the <em>Concierto<\/em>\u2014have been popping up all over the world. But the biggest Rodrigo celebration yet this year takes place October 28-31 at Belgium\u2019s Conservatory of Brussels (Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel). Over that four-day period there will be master classes with renowned guitarists Odair Assad and Marcos Soc\u00edas (and also violinist Agust\u00edn Le\u00f3n Ara), lectures, workshops and a gala concert, dubbed \u201cThe Other Side of Joaqu\u00edn Rodrigo,\u201d that will put the spotlight on his chamber music, some pieces including vocals. The composer\u2019s daughter, Cecilia Rodrigo, will give a pre-concert talk that will include performances of parts of the <em>Concierto de Aranjuez<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The event was organized by the world-renowned guitarist and educator Antigoni Goni, who teaches at the Conservatory in Brussels, and also holds positions at New York\u2019s Columbia University and the Royal Academy of Music in London.) Photo by Peter Anderson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>Young Guitar Talents to Showcase at Carnegie Hall and in SF<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The seventh installment of the D\u2019Addario Foundation\u2019s Performance Series for emerging guitarists brings together two of the classical-guitar world\u2019s most promising talents for a concert at Carnegie Hall\u2019s Weill Recital Hall on November 6: Ekaichai Jearakul, from Thailand, was the winner of the 2014 Guitar Foundation of America competition (among many other honors) and recently had his first CD, <em>Guitar Recital<\/em>, released by Naxos as part of their Laureate Series. Chinese guitarist Liying Zhu, who will be making her American debut at this concert, was the first prize winner of at this year\u2019s prestigious Koblenz International Competition, after taking top honors at other competitions in Germany and the Netherlands the previous year (and placing in numerous others).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2892\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2892\" style=\"width: 1022px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2892\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Jearakul.jpg?resize=1022%2C682\" alt=\"Ekachai Jearakul\" width=\"1022\" height=\"682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Jearakul.jpg?w=1022&amp;ssl=1 1022w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Jearakul.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1022px) 100vw, 1022px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2892\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ekachai Jearakul<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Two nights later, on November 8, Zhu will play at San Francisco\u2019s St. Mark\u2019s Lutheran Church as part of the D&#8217;Addario Performance Series, put on in association with the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/omniconcerts.com\/concerts\/\" target=\"_blank\">Omni Foundation for the Performing Arts<\/a><\/strong>. Before the concert proper, Julian Bream and Julian Anderson will give a talk.
