{"id":4250,"date":"2016-05-18T11:55:54","date_gmt":"2016-05-18T18:55:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/?p=4250"},"modified":"2016-05-20T09:02:22","modified_gmt":"2016-05-20T16:02:22","slug":"video-pick-of-the-week-the-duarte-salazar-duo-plays-enrique-granados-danza-espanola-no-11-zambra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/video-pick-of-the-week-the-duarte-salazar-duo-plays-enrique-granados-danza-espanola-no-11-zambra\/","title":{"rendered":"Video Pick of the Week: The Duarte-Salazar Duo Plays Enrique Granados\u2019 \u2018Danza Espa\u00f1ola No. 11: Zambra\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spanish composer Enrique Granados (1867\u20131916) never wrote any music for the guitar, yet a number of his works have become core pieces of the classical-guitar repertoire, including this one, from his 12-part <em>Danzas Espa<\/em><em>\u00f1ola<\/em>, written on piano in 1890, when he was just 23 years old.<\/p>\n<p>This marvelous version of \u201cNo. 11: Zambra\u201d (a Spanish Gypsy dance) comes from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.duartesalazarduo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Duarte-Salazar Duo<\/a>\u2014Mariana Duarte (Portugal) and Emerson Salazar (Chile), who met in Austria in 2007 when both were attending the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-mozarteum.at\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mozarteum University <\/a>of Salzburg, studying under Eliot Fisk and Ricardo Gall\u00e9n. They have been performing as a duo (in addition to solo appearances) since 2011. This piece is one of two from Granados\u2019<em> Danzas Espa<\/em><em>\u00f1ola<\/em> that appear on their superb new CD, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.duartesalazarduo.com\/shop\/\" target=\"_blank\">Danzas de Fuego<\/a><\/em> (the other is &#8220;No. 6: Rondalla Aragonesa&#8221;). Also on the album is Astor Piazzolla\u2019s <em>Tango Suite<\/em>, Alberto Ginastera\u2019s <em>Tres Danzas Argentinas<\/em>, and six \u201cDanzas\u201d by Manuel de Falla. The Ginastera and half of the Falla pieces are the duo\u2019s own arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>The CD was recorded in Santiago, Chile, with the duo using guitars built by Stephan Connor (who wrote an article for the <a href=\"http:\/\/store.elizabethl27.sg-host.com\/collections\/back-issues-1\/products\/no-382-summer-2016\" target=\"_blank\">latest issue<\/a> of <em>Classical Guitar<\/em> about building a pair of guitars in Granada, Spain).
