It was recorded in the Netherlands, where she currently lives and teaches,\u00a0at the historic church in Fransum. Look for an interview with Sabrina Vlaskalic in the summer issue of <em>Classical Guitar<\/em>, out in May.<\/p>\n<p><em>Introduction and Rondo Brilliante Op. 2, No. 2<\/em> (Aguado); <em>Estudio II<\/em> (Mignone) <em>Homenaje pour le Tombeau de Debussy<\/em> (Falla); <em>Sonata: Fandangos y Boleros, Sarabanda de Scriabin, La Toccata de Pasquini<\/em> (Brouwer); <em>Royal Winter Music: Second Sonata\u2014Sir Andrew Aguecheek<\/em> (Henze); <em>Fantasia Op. 19<\/em> (Legnani)<\/p>\n<p>So far, the CD seems to be available only through this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.groningerkerken.nl\/winkel_ps\/index.php?id_product=113&amp;controller=product\" target=\"_blank\">Dutch distributor<\/a>, but it can be purchased digitally through iTunes, and heard in its entirety on <a href=\"https:\/\/play.spotify.com\/album\/29CxZSE2DWXcFVI6zv7O75?play=true&amp;utm_source=open.spotify.com&amp;utm_medium=open\" target=\"_blank\">Spotify<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/results?search_query=sabrina+vlaskalic+debut\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube<\/a>, and\u00a0Apple Music.<\/p>\n<p><em>Here&#8217;s a video from several years ago of Vlaskalic playing Aguado&#8217;s <\/em>Introduction and Rondo Brilliante<em>:<\/em><br \/>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wVc7tuo_G-E?ecver=1\" width=\"780\" height=\"439\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6449\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/ozan.jpg?resize=218%2C218\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/ozan.jpg?w=218&amp;ssl=1 218w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/ozan.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/classicalguitarmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/ozan.jpg?resize=125%2C125&amp;ssl=1 125w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 218px) 100vw, 218px\" \/><br \/>\n<em><strong>Sonidos de Paisajes: Music of Spain<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Ozan Saritepe<br \/>\n<\/strong>ozansaritepe.com<\/p>\n<p>As you might expect from a guitarist&#8217;s album featuring &#8220;Music of Spain,&#8221; this superb Turkish player has included pieces by most of the &#8220;big&#8221; names: Alb\u00e9niz,\u00a0T\u00e1rrega, Falla, Torroba, et al, and even a few of the most-played numbers, such as \u00a0<em>Asturias<\/em>, <em>Lagrima,<\/em> and <em>La vida Breve. <\/em>But to his credit, Saritepe makes interesting choices with two of those three &#8220;war-horses,&#8221; supplementing <em>Asturias<\/em> with percussive cajon and <em>compas<\/em>\u00a0(handclaps) during the main repeated motif (I&#8217;m not sure a short cajon solo was necessary in the middle), and playing the more flamenco-style arrangement of <em>La vida Breve<\/em> favored by Paco de Luc\u00eda. All his other selections are outstanding, and include several that are far from common, such as T\u00e1rrega&#8217;s gorgeous <em>Adelita<\/em>, Llobet&#8217;s <em>Mazurka por Federico Buifaletti<\/em>, Torroba&#8217;s <em>Sonata-Fantasia<\/em> and Mompou&#8217;s <em>Cancion No. 6<\/em>. Saritepe has sequenced the disc beautifully, mixing the styles and tempos from track to track so that each selection feels fresh when it arrives and no single mood overstays its welcome. So it&#8217;s not too surprising that on this disc there is a mixture of Spanish\/Latin repertoire (Llobet, Rodrigo, Granados, and a hefty serving of Brouwer), but also several pieces that reflect his roots, including the premiere recording of Duarte&#8217;s appealing\u00a0<em>Variations on a Maylaysian \u00a0Song Op. 125<\/em> <em>&#8216;Geteran Jiwa&#8217;<\/em>\u00a0 and three short pieces arranged by Cheong which, though they have Malay origins, could just as easily be European classical-guitar pieces. That&#8217;s not a criticism, as all are fine pieces, but a this is not the place to hear a fusion of classical and Asian folk styles. Still, it&#8217;s an impressive program.<\/p>\n<p><em>Three Catalan Folksongs: Canco del Lladra, El Testament D&#8217;Amelia, El Noi de la Mare<\/em> (Llobet); <em>Danza Espa\u00f1ola No. 5<\/em> (Granados); <em>En los Trigales<\/em> (Rodrigo); <em>Tannah Pusaka<\/em> (Merican); <em>Putera Puteri<\/em> (Boyle); <em>Mak Inang<\/em> (Trad.); <em>Variations on a Maylaysian \u00a0Song Op. 125<\/em> <em>&#8216;Geteran Jiwa&#8217;<\/em> (Duarte); Five by Bouwer: <em>Berceuse, Les Yeaux Sorciers, Elogio de la danza, A Day in November, Danza Caracteristica<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Alas, we were unable to find any online audio samples from the CD, and ordering, so far, appears to be limited to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simoncheong.com\/product\/john-duarte-variation-on-a-malaysian-song-op-125-getaran-jiwa-world-premiere-recording\/\" target=\"_blank\">Simon Cheong&#8217;s website<\/a>.
